Gabriel Casas. Photography, information and modernity

Gabriel Casas. Photography, information and modernity

Days: 22/4/2015 To 30/8/2015

The German "New Vision" movement revolutionised the world of photography in the twenties by using surprising frames, high and low angles, contrasts of light and shapes, photomontage... In Spain, Gabriel Casas was one of the photographers from the period between the wars, who adopted this photographic language. We now have the chance to view over 120 works by Casas, dating from the International Exposition of Barcelona in 1929 to the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939. A run through the New Photography in Spain, through modernity, social and political concerns and through the commitment of those who dared to break away from tradition.

The beast and the sovereign

The beast and the sovereign

Days: 19/3/2015 To 30/8/2015

Entitled like this by the last seminar given by Jacques Derrida in 2003, in which the limits of political sovereignty were analysed, this exhibition gives a series of examples of contemporary art which question and destroy this concept. In the beast and the sovereign, Derrida symbolized the two allegorical figures of politics, both beyond the law, either because of lack of knowledge or authority. He also described how the relation between both generates relations of domination. Through the work of artists including Efrén Álvarez, Angela Bonadiesy Juan José Olavarría, Inés Doujaky John Barker, Juan Downey, Edgar Endress, Oier Etxeberria, León Ferrari, Ghasem Hajizadeh, Julia Montilla, Ocaña, Mary Reid Kelley, Jorge Ribalta, Wu Tsang, StefanosTsivopoulos, Viktor & Yelena Vorobyeva and Sergio Zevallos, the exhibition reflects the thought of sovereignty beyond power, and how to achieve it without falling into relations of domination.

Metal history. Art and power in European medals

Histoire métallique. L’art et le pouvoir à travers la médaille européenne

Days: 16/10/2014  18/10/2015

In the 17th and 18th centuries, an intense activity of medals was developed in Europe. They are the so-called "historic medals", to commemorate the main events of a reign. Monarchs counted on experts, artists and technicians to make them, so they reflected in detail a sequence of life, a family event, a diplomatic success or a military victory. This activity led to rivalry between sovereigns wishing to mark milestones in the history of their reign. The MNAC is now displaying a wide selection of pieces to study this unique collection activity.

The Motorcycle Museum Foundation, at the time of Bultaco's come back trough an advanced project of electrical bike which incorporates a great portion of the sport and deep passion philosophy of the historical firm, wants to pay tribute to which most likely is the Spanish motorcycle brand with highest charisma ever.

In spite of its short productive life –hardly 24 years- firm created by F.X. Bultó in 1958 left an amazing legacy, especially in those mythical models, together with commercial and sport hits which materialise in this new temporary exhibition of the Barcelona Motorcycle Museum: Bultaco, Legendary Motorcycles.

It is a thorough selection of 26 motorcycles besides material and documentation of the factory which expects to liaise the recalled history with the new era which Bultaco affords now 32 years after it was closed down and which, no doubt will give raise to a new “Bultaquistas” generation with the same spirit ever.
